THE KALLANG "ROAR"

Wednesday, 20th Oct 2010. A visit to the National Stadium - or whatever remains of it - brought back fond memories of childhood days. Nothing much to see as the place is fenced up for the demolition work. Just being there revived nostalgic moments of the Kallang Roar and the Kallang Wave, except on that day, the articulations and gesticulations had to come from 9 sprightly senior citizens.

We started at the Kallang MRT station. Breakfast was at the Upper Boon Keng market food centre. Unlike many other centres we have had visited, the hawkers here are more willing to take order and serve. Probably because Mr Tng is “well known” here.  A simple breakfast but more important was the coffee, tea or diao yee. So when all were contended, we walked towards the old dame (the National Stadium). We dashed across many major roads and crawled under several flyovers and bridges before finally catching the view of the landmark light masts of the stadium. A few shots for the album and the blog before this grand structure go down in history.

Then it was a walk to the Jalan Berseh food centre, along Jalan Besar Road. No fish this time. Long queue as usual. Besides, they were more interested  in  the beer,  so it was down to the basement for some "Zhi Char". We were split into 2 tables - I think there were 14 of us - classified "Alcohol" and "Non-Alcohol", Incidentally, it was Char's birthday and we got a treat of rojak from him.  Happy Birthday !!!  it’s the thought that counts. After talking incessantly for 2 hours, it was time to say good bye again.

Next stop – Batam?
